James Baldwin, Natalie C. Barney, Sylvia Beach… How lesbian and homosexual writers and artists contributed to the myth of a neighborhood, and wrote a page of 20th-century American literature from Paris.

In the interwar and postwar periods, these individuals wrote and/or published essays and novels that shed light not only on the experiences of sexual minorities, but also on racism, sexism, and repression in American and French societies – and the artistic and political creativity that opposes them.
