+ Part One: Rebeka Warrior
Eartheater practices its own poetic alchemy, melting its subjects into objects: waves transform seashells into sand; flames melt sand into glass; glass contains wine; wine intoxicates you.
Eartheater's seventh album, Heavenly Body: If I'm the Bottle You're the Message, is both personal and universal. Exploring the pregnant woman's body as a vessel for something greater than herself, it offers an intimate look at what it means to carry life, how it transforms the body and existence, and what it means to be a parent. It's a collection of birth plans, playlists, pregnancy urine tests, and sex during pregnancy. While it reflects the unique experience of one woman, composer, singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Alexandra Drewchin, it also resonates with feelings that others have experienced, differently, without necessarily being parents—which only amplifies the album's power. Drewchin began writing it just over three months after the birth of her daughter, Nova, now ten months old. "It truly came out of the joys and emotions of motherhood," she explains. "Some music can wait and find its meaning later." This one, however, had to be released immediately. When you act quickly, you have less time to second-guess yourself, and the resulting 11 tracks are among Eartheater's most catchy and immediate. Despite their complexity, they seem disconcertingly fluid.
