Christophe Honoré : "Suis-je l'auteur de mes films ?"

“Are films the corpses of the filmmakers who shot them, I mean, the beginnings of their own remains? A piece already dead, which they offer up while still alive. Do filmmakers sell their skin long before they die? So that on the day their coffins are lifted, the load seems light to the pallbearers, unusually light, as if it were half a man, a quarter for the greatest among them, that was still there and remained to be buried.”

The Maison des Arts & de la Création is honored to welcome artist Christophe Honoré as holder of the Cinema Chair for 2026-2027 . During this inaugural lecture (followed by a Q&A session), he will launch an exceptional series dedicated to the question of authorship in cinema. and, more broadly, in the narrative and performing arts.

Filmmaker, but also writer, playwright and director among the most prolific of his generation, Christophe Honoré will examine the figure of the author from his own practice, his artistic history and his long-term collaborations.

This inaugural meeting will lay the groundwork for a course entitled “ Experienced by the Role of the Author, ” in which students will be invited to explore the notion of authorship through writing, art direction, and the production of a very short video. Using shared materials, they will experiment with the boundaries between individual intention, collective creation, and the contribution of performers.

The meeting will be co-hosted by Xavier Lardoux , a teacher at Sciences Po, now at the head of the National Film School La CinéFabrique and former director of the CNC, alongside a student, before concluding with a time for discussion with the public.
